Opti-Shield™ – Installation Best Practices – Newly Planted Fruit and Nut Trees
Opti-Shield™ Units are designed to accelerate growth, propagate more complex root structures, sho en time to first crop and maturity, and increase yield. Opti-Shields also significantly reduce labor costs associated with conventional pruning and canopy management. Easy to install, remove and store; Opti-Shield Units are typically used for two (2) years, then can be moved to the next newly planted orchard. No need to remove Opti-Shield units during normally scheduled spraying, irrigation/fertigation, or amendments. Durable, stable (even in high wind conditions), and designed to last 8-10 years, Opti-Shields are made for multiple uses. The Unit is comprised of two (2) identical sections that should t seamlessly together. You will need two (2) studded T-Posts, U-Posts or wooden posts – we recommend 8ft for solid ground and 10ft for loose soil.
Opti-Gro™ – Installation Best Practices – Newly Planted Table Grape and Wine Grape Vines
Opti-Gro Units are designed to accelerate growth, advance shoot ligni˜cation, and reduce mo°ality in newly planted table grape and wine grape vines. These highly e˛ective plant growth chambers provide a photo-selective light environment coupled with a protective micro-climate around the young vine, resulting in enhanced growth and development, protection from environmental stresses, and natural vine training. As a result, newly planted vineyards and replacement vines begin producing and reach full production years earlier. Opti-Gro units significantly reduce labor costs associated with vine training, pruning, and maintenance – the Unit does most of the work.
Winter pruning
Open the Opti-Gro unit and prune the lateral shoots, leaving the main shoot and an insurance shoot. Tip the shoots right below point of lignification or just below the topmost wire of trellis system. Tie shoot to the stake and reset Opti-Gro unit back on vine.
Spring/Summer
When the main shoot is long, create the cordons and quads by tying to the wire. DO NOT remove lateral shoots as they add to the leaf area supporting upward growth of the main shoot. Lateral shoots may be tipped to reduce the push of the lateral shoots
