The language of light, in grower terms.

Twelve terms that come up in every conversation about light management, each defined in one paragraph.

Opti-Filter™
Patented light-filtration material that converts sunlight into scattered, red-enriched light and filters out growth-inhibiting wavelengths. It is the core technology inside every Opti-Harvest product.
Red-enriched light
Sunlight shifted toward the red end of the spectrum, the wavelengths that drive photosynthesis hardest and trigger a plant to build structure.
Scattered light
Light diffused in many directions rather than arriving as a direct beam, so it reaches deep and shaded parts of a canopy instead of only the top leaves.
Photomorphogenesis
The way light quality, not just quantity, shapes how a plant grows: where it puts leaves, laterals and roots. Red light is a primary trigger.
Photosynthetically active radiation (PAR)
The portion of sunlight, roughly 400 to 700 nanometers, that plants can use for photosynthesis. Much of the rest becomes heat and stress.
Canopy management
The practice of shaping how a crop's leaves and fruit are arranged to control light, airflow and labor. Opti-Panel automates part of it optically.
Water-use efficiency
Crop produced per unit of water applied. Filtered light improves it by reducing plant stress and building denser roots, so the same irrigation goes further.
Fertigation
Delivering fertilizer through the irrigation system. Trials under filtered light measured 25 to 50% fertigation savings.
Grow tube
A conventional plastic sleeve placed around a young vine. It shelters the plant but restricts leaf growth; Opti-Gro replaces it with a light-managing chamber.
Replant
A young vine planted to replace a dead or removed one inside an established vineyard. Replants struggle against mature neighbors, which is why replant yields respond so strongly to added light.
Lignified laterals
Side shoots that have hardened into permanent wood. A vine with lignified laterals in season one carries fruit in season two.
HDPE
High-density polyethylene, the recyclable plastic all Opti-Harvest products are made from, guaranteed for 10 years in field conditions.
